Warriors Transition Unit

Ft. Jackson, SC

the largest United States Army installation for Basic Combat Training in the U.S.

2013

The video below was published on Feb. 3, 2013 as a tribute to the soldiers in the Warriors Transition Unit at Ft. Jackson, SC. This was the first Art Therapy project at this military installation for which we had the honor of volunteering.

The soldiers were shown a still life and asked to sketch it with the help of our team of volunteering artists. Some of the soldiers chose to sketch things other than the still life and were encouraged to do so – the program promoted freedom of self-expression. The program also included pottery and fused glass creations.

The goal of the project was to help the men and women participating understand their emotional conflicts, develop social skills, improve self-esteem, manage addictions, reduce anxiety, and restore normal function to their lives.
